Language & Culture Department

This department offers a range of academic Spanish Language courses, Language and Content courses, Spanish for Special Purposes, as well as English language courses.
Our language courses have a maximum limit of eight to ten students per group, and the Language of study is used the entire time as the primary communication language.Our programs are divided into two distinct components, taught by different professors.
  • Notional-Functional Spanish. It offers the students the necessary tools to be able to achieve communication competence through functional and grammatical contexts, which integrate the four language skills.
  • Thematic Spanish, in which language is worked through thematic units that allow the students to expand their linguistic range as well as their social, cultural and/or specific purposes knowledge.


The methodology used in our courses is based on different approaches and learning tools that enable rapid assimilation of linguistic content and familiarity with the use of language in everyday and professional situations.
  • The communicative approach enable the learner to communication actually, not only in the oral aspect but also in the written,-with other speakers of the LE; for this purpose, in the teaching process is often texts, recordings and authentic materials used and activities seeking faithfully mimic reality performed outside the classroom.
  • Task-based language learning) focuses on the use of authentic language and on asking students to do meaningful tasks using the target language. This makes TBLL especially popular for developing target language fluency and student confidence.
  • Learning by experience, proposed activities suited to the interests, experiences and needs of students, creating a Participants work individually, in pairs or groups to complete the proposed activities. The work is enriched with cooperative work environment, so that learning an active, effective and enjoyable is favored. Written texts, exhibitions, debates, simulation of real contexts, development of questionnaires and interviews.

Course Material

In our Spanish language courses we use text and/or books, as well as other course self-designed materials and specialized books, songs, games, movies, literary texts, press articles, and the web.

Curriculum and Daily Schedule

CELEI provides a curriculum that includes the objectives and content of each level as well as the materials used, the system of evaluation, and the methodology. We also provide a daily schedule for each level, which includes the goals and content of the day.
